January 2007 brings ‘change’ to the Leadership Development Series (LDS)

Over 1200 managers and supervisors have selected the Rutgers Center for Management Development (RutgersCMD) Leadership Development Series Certificate program over the last 10 years to develop and enhance their performance and advance their career.  And since the very beginning, we have continually attempted to keep the program current to reflect changes in the workplace.

In 2007, we are pleased to add an important 12th workshop to the series - Implementing Organizational Change. This session will focus on the critical success factors for implementing organizational change: establishing the vision of a change effort,  exploring strategies to deal with resistance to change, and developing effective communication strategies to plan and implement a change initiative in the most positive and constructive manner.

Participants may enroll in any number of workshops in the Series to enhance their professional development. However, the Leadership Development Certificate will be awarded those who attend all 12 workshops over a 3 year period. In addition, CMD awards participants CEU”S, CPE’s and/or an option to earn academic graduate credit.

CMD introduces the New Strategic Human Resource Management Series

The Strategic Human Resource Management series has been designed to provide participants with both a comprehensive treatment of the subject matter and practical skills which best align current job requirements and personal development needs.  As an extension of the Advanced Human Resource Management Workshops Series and Certificate Program, we have added 4 new workshops to establish links between the HR function and your organization’s other strategic business units:

  • Business Strategy
  • Financial Analysis for HR Managers
  • Conflict Management
  • Trends and Issues in HRM

If you are already participating in the Advanced Human Management series, we would like to offer you two options for completing the requirements for your certificate:

  1. Continue this series as you started and be awarded a certificate in Advanced Human Resource Management. If you choose this tract, all requirements must be met by December 2007.
  2. Make the transition over to the Strategic Human Resource Management series at which point you will have 3 years from your start date to complete the requirements.

Each of the12 workshops in this series focus on the necessary skills offers practical suggestions for applying these skills and is presented by Rutgers faculty and experts who are at the forefront of these latest developments in their field.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) finds a powerful ROI with the “Leadership Development Series Hybrid”

WWL has taken an approach to training which combines the benefits of an in-house training format with those of a public, open enrollment forum. This “hybrid” approach to training, enables participants to network and learn to ‘think out of the box’ from peers from other organizations and industries, as well as participate in workshops delivered on-site for the purpose of customizing a design that meets specific organizational needs e.g. Problem solving & Decision Making, Performance Management and Coaching

WWL, one of the world’s largest shipping and logistics companies, feels that this approach offers their high potential leaders the most effective way to grow and develop by experiencing the benefits of both forums in the Leadership Development Series.

College Board offers Mini MBA: Business Essentials

Twenty-five members of the College Board's senior management team are traveling to NYC to take part in the Rutgers Mini MBA:Business Essentials Program in January. This follows the NYC Wall Street debut of the Mini MBA at International Securities Exchange (ISE), where a second session of the Mini MBA is scheduled for March.

Hoffmann LaRoche Supervisors Share the Leadership Series with their team

The Accounts Payable Supervisory Team at Hoffmann LaRoche is nearing completion of their LDS certificate program. They decided recently that they wanted to bring their new found skills, tips and techniques to their work unit for the purpose of getting all “on the same track” to work more efficiently and effectively as a team; and they decided not to do that alone.

So, they approached RutgersCMD and asked us to design and deliver a customized version of the Leadership Development Series to their work unit to assist them in these efforts. Using the Supervisory Team as “a focus group,” we determined the specific results they wanted to meet and determined the best way to meet them. The workshops were rolled out over a 10 week period, with the supervisors coaching and mentoring participants in implementing action plans “back on the job”

By taking an active role in the process, employees and supervisors joined together to put the new knowledge and skills to work. At this point, CMD has been asked to develop follow on up training tied to a newly implemented performance management system.

This development initiative has resulted in better communications, ownership and the overall morale of the work unit.
